How We Grew to 100K Users in One Year
Starting Point: A Product With No Users
When we launched Barrigaz at the end of 2022, we had a clear understanding of the problem — but zero users. Financial accounting for small businesses remained a pain point: either expensive enterprise software, Excel spreadsheets, or outsourced accountants.
We chose a path many consider too slow — product first, growth second.
The First 1,000 Users: Done Manually
Our first customers came through personal connections. We literally called entrepreneurs from our address book and offered them the product for free in exchange for feedback.
This gave us three important things:
- A deep understanding of the customer’s real workflow
- First case studies and testimonials
- Word-of-mouth in niche communities
By the end of the first quarter, we had 1,200 active accounts.
Scaling Through Content
At the 10K user mark, we noticed something interesting: a significant portion of traffic came from search queries like “how to do bookkeeping for a small business” and “cashflow template for entrepreneurs.”
We launched this blog. Not to write about ourselves — but to solve real questions from our audience. Every article addressed a specific pain point.
Result: organic traffic grew 8x in 6 months.
What Worked and What Didn’t
| Channel | Result |
|---|---|
| SEO content | ✅ Best ROI |
| Telegram communities | ✅ Fast start |
| Paid ads | ❌ Expensive, low conversion |
| Accountant partnerships | ✅ Long-term effect |
| Product Hunt | ❌ Wrong audience |
The Main Lesson
Growth is a consequence of a product that people want to recommend. If your NPS is below 40, no marketing will help.
Our NPS at the 100K user milestone was 62. That was the real engine of growth.
